Couture Process

Choosing a gown

1. CHOOSING A GOWN

First, the bride chooses the style and fabric of her gown. At Caleche we have many styles to choose from in the store ,or alternatively we can create a new design or personalise a gown to suit your style and budget. Once the gown is decided the bride will place a formal order. Subsequently she will receive a folder containing fabrics swatches and a sketch of her gown

Measurements

2. MEASUREMENTS

Next she will attend a measuring appointment, where a fitter will take all body measurements as well as visual rendition of posture. From this information the pattern maker will draft a specific pattern, from which a calico or 1st sample will be made for her next fitting.

3. THE 1ST FITTING

The first "calico toile" is a mock-up of the dress, and it will be fitted to the body to ascertain the most accurate fit and proportion to create a dress that is as flattering as possible. Your pattern will then be perfected to incorporate any adjustments made in the toile fitting.
The "1st Fitting" will consist of the fabric of the gown (usually the skirt only) and the interlining (usually the bodice only) and will be fitted closely to the body to give the best possible fit for the gown. Any alterations will then be done by the seamstress.

4. DRESS FITTINGS

Depending on the style and fabrics chosen by the bride, she will need another 2-3 actual fittings, to ensure the highest possible standard of fit. The final fitting is usually done closer to the wedding date to allow for any changes in body shape.
